A senior SSUF/A commander has been killed alongside five others in a fierce military confrontation in Aweil North between the national army, SSPDF and armed opposition forces of Ex-army chief of staff, Gen. Paul Malong Awan, sources confirmed on both sides.
Gen. Manut Yel Lual better known by his nom-de-guerre Mony Ayak was shot dead while fighting against government troops in Wathok bridge on Tuesday.
SSPDF reported minor gun injuries, adding that their troops have netted his deputy, another towering bellicose operative, Maj. Gen. Kuol Athuai with dozens of fighters after a hot pursuit.
The R-ARCISS peace deal excluded SSUF/A from being part of the negotiations in Addis Ababa, paving way for the formation of the transitional government of national unity set for November this year, leaving the armed faction wandering in the battle field.
