President Kiir Awards Veterans On 64th Anniversary Of Veteran’s Day At Defense General Headquarters

The Ministry of Defense and Veterans’ affairs celebrated the 64th anniversary of veteran’s day at defense general headquarters held under the theme, “Thank you veterans”.

The anniversary celebration attended by SPLA and SPLA IO officers, comes in a bid for the army to celebrate and honor the veterans and senior officers of the organized forces who made sacrifices in the liberation struggle for the independence and liberty of the people of South Sudan.

President Salva Kiir, the First Vice President General Taban Deng Gai, the First Lady Mary Ayen Mayardit and Madam Rebecca Nyandeng De’ Mabior were among the SPLA veteran’s awarded medals for the role they played during the SPLA revolutionary wars.

Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs also awarded the Anya Nya veterans for their exceptional dedication, commitment and sticking together and fighting under the most difficult condition using traditional weapons against successive Khartoum’s regimes.

Eminent Personalities and Senior officers of South Sudan national police, civil defense, and wildlife service were awarded for their vision, leadership and firm commitment which enabled the SPLM/A to stand firm and continue to wage war against the enemies which resulted to the independence of the Republic of South Sudan.

Addressing the occasion, President Salva Kiir said, he will continue to award the SPLA soldiers that gave tireless contribution for the liberation and freedom of the People of Republic of South Sudan.

President Salva Kiir urged South Sudanese to start speaking in the language of peace, stating that people have suffered enough with the conflict and there is no need for war anymore

President Salva Kiir called upon the people to welcome the opposition groups as brothers and sisters work together in the would be formed transitional government of national unity.

Representing the veterans during the occasion, Colonel Rebecca Joshua Okwaci, the former Minister of Roads and Bridges said, awarding veterans for their contributions is a call coming out loud for them to use the momentum and proceed towards peace and development.

Rebecca Joshua also appealed to President Salva Kiir to consider veterans for a special promotion of one to two steps before exiting and leaving the chance for the young generations.

Meanwhile, the wife of the late hero Karbino Kuanyin, Madam Angelina Nyandeng said, she does not consider herself a widow because the flag that claimed the life of her husband is rising very high, Madam Angelina Nyandeng appealed to Rebecca Nyandeng, the wife of the late Hero Dr. John Garang De’ Mabior to commit for the prosperity and building of the nation that claimed the lives of their husbands.

This year’s anniversary celebration held at defense general headquarters comes in a bid for the ministry of Defense and Veteran’s affairs to celebrate and honor the veterans and senior officers of the organized forces who made tireless sacrifices in the liberation struggle for the independence and liberty for the South Sudanese.
