President Kiir: ‘I’ve asked Riek to nominate delegates to be appointed in unity gov’t but up to now no list’

H.E. General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the commander in chief of SSPDF officiated the opening ceremony of the 7th command council conference, at defense general headquarters in Juba on Thursday under the theme, SSPDF transformation and challenges of implementing the R-ARCSS.

The three days command council conference comes as an effort to brief the army on the status of the Revitalized Peace Agreement with focus on the transitional security arrangements, permanent ceasefire, cantonment, re- unification, training of the unified forces and strategic defense security review.

Addressing the command council at the defense headquarters, President Salva Kiir stressed that, the transitional Government of National Unity must be formed on time by 12 November, and explained why its extension is bad for the country.

President Salva Kiir urged the people to remember that, peace is very expensive and comes with consequences stating that, some people will lose their positions to give peace and stability a chance to prevail in the country.

President Salva Kiir told the command council that, he urged the opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar to nominate the names of his delegates that are to be appointed in the would be formed transitional Government of the national unity and up to now he has not yet presented the list of his nominees.

President Salva Kiir also added that, he is happy that the permanent ceasefire is holding across the country and urged the army to embrace and maintain it for the welfare of the people of South Sudan.

The 7th command council conference was officiated by President Salva Kiir under the theme, ‘SSPDF transformation and challenges of implementing the R-ARCSS.’

This three days command council conference being held at the defense general headquarters in Juba is expected to come to an end on 2nd November, with resolutions and recommendations in line with the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
