President Salva Kiir Mayardit held consultative meeting with opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar

The deputy chairman of Sudan Sovereign Council, Lt General Mohamed Hamdan attended the consultative meeting between President Salva Kiir and the opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar at the State House on Wednesday.

The consultative meeting between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar comes in a bid to evaluate progress on the implementation of the outstanding issues which include the number of states and their boundaries after the parties failed to agree on the issue last week.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar said, they are working to ensure that they agreement is implemented.

Presidential adviser on security affairs, Tut Gatluak said, the meeting discussed the implementation of the pending issues that are hindering the implementation of the peace agreement, especially the issue of the number of states.

Tut Gatluak said, President Salva Kiir and the opposition leader will meet with the security committee to review progress on the implementation of the security arrangements.

The deputy chairman of Sudan Sovereign Council, Lt General Mohamed Hamdan urged the people to support the implementation of the deal, General Mohamed Hemeti described the meeting as important towards the implementation of the outstanding issues on the peace agreement.

After the parties failed to reach consensus last week on the issue of the number of the states and boundaries, the government proposed to resolve the contentious issue on the peace agreement through referendum.
