Miss Universe, Miss World, Model of the year, Miss America, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA all are black women first time in history

When Zozibini Tunzi, Miss South Africa, was crowned Miss Universe 2019, she not only gained a historic victory for her country, but she also joins a list of other minority women taking the crown for the first time in history.

In December 2018, Akech beat models including Ashley Graham, Adwoa Aboah and Gigi Hadid to be named Model of the Year at The Model of the Year Industry Award. Adut Akech Was also Named “Model of the Year” at the 2019 Fashion Awards. Adut Akech has officially been named “Model of the Year” by the British Fashion Council.

South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi has been crowned Miss Universe for the year 2019, beating more than 90 contestants, including Miss India, from around the globe.

2019 Model of the Year: Adut Akech Bior

South Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech took home the 2019 crown, beating out the likes of Kaia Gerber and Winnie Harlow. It’s been an incredible year for the 19-year-old beauty whose meteoric rise in the industry has seen her become of 2019’s most in-demand models.

Miss World 2019: Toni-Ann Singh

ToniAnn Singh (born 1996) is a Jamaican-American beauty pageant titleholder who is the current reigning Miss World 2019. She was previously crowned Miss Jamaica World 2019, and is the fourth woman from Jamaica to win Miss World.

Miss America: Nia Imani Franklin

Nia Imani Franklin took home the crown for Miss America 2019 on Sept. 9, 2018.
Before she was crowned the prestigious honor, she represented for the state of New York.

Miss United States: Alexia Robinson

Alexia Robinson was crowned Miss United States in August 2019. The St. Louis native studied Biochemistry at the University of Missouri Columbia.

Her title should not be confused with Miss USA and Miss America — Miss United States is a different company. They describe their competition as “an enriching journey of multi-faceted personal growth where girls ages 20-29, supported by the families, compete on a national level,” according to the website. shared by WTHR

Miss Earth USA: Emanii Davis

Emanii Davis is representing Georgia on the world stage.
The Spalding County native is on a mission to make the world better as Miss Earth USA.

Miss Supranational USA: Regina Gray

Regina Gray took home the crown for Miss Supranational USA 2019 on Aug. 10.
According to official website shared on WTHR for the competition, it is one of the “leading international beauty contests.”
