SPLM-IO Demands Formation of Transitional Unity Government Extended For Six More Weeks

Formation of Transitional Government of National Unity was extended to February 22nd from last year on 12th November after it was demanded by Opposition party [SPLM-IO].

The SPLM-IO has now demanded that the parties be given six weeks in order to complete the training of the necessary unified forces.

SPLM-IO chairperson of security Angelina Teny who is also the wife of the opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar said the unified military force will not be in place by February 22, the deadline for the country’s rival parties to form a transitional unity government.

Angelina Teny says the parties need six more weeks for a unified force.

“Now there is transport and movement of combatants or forces to training centers from cantonment [sites] and from barracks. These people are now in training centers,” Teny said.

“Even though the forces are in the training centers, the training has not commenced yet. In order to orient them and unify them properly, it is supposed to be delivered in eight weeks, so the training will take eight weeks and the screening will probably take another week or two,” she said.

South Sudan Governors of 32 States and Abyei Administrative Area said in statement today that they’re ready for the formation unity government in time.
