President Salva Kiir has fired the Minister of Presidential Affairs Mayiik Ayii; replaced him with Nhial Deng Nhial, former foreign affairs minister, in a decree announced on SSBC today.
Mayiik Ayii Deng was the Minister in the Office of the President since 2016.
He was appointed to that position on 29 April 2016, following the signing of the Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCISS) and formation of the transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU).
President Kiir in August 2019 relieved Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and appointed former Gender Minister Hon. Awut Deng Acuil.
Nhial Deng, who held Ministry of Foreign Affairs for two years, has long been seen as President Kiir’s right-hand man.
